| What the network does The network is built on the premise that African Americans should have a choice to obtain the support, guidance and care of an African American provider to deal with personal and professional problems that are heightened, sometimes caused by and frequently incubated in the invisible pressure cooker of institutional racism. Many web visitors send messages to us expressing deep appreciation and relief that we are here. Some of your stories of your experiences are both heartbreaking and extremely familiar. For many of you, it is an opportunity to take a breath and not feel the examining eye of someone who simply doesn't understand the effects of racism. Or denies it. Blacks who live in all-black communities are often not as overwhelmed by these issues because they don't interact with majority folks as often, until they seek care. The network is offering a resting place, an opportunity to vent, to see clearly and move on to reparative healing. To create a connection with your Higher Power that will both guide and shield you in an environment that may experience some inter-ethnic static before it sings a smooth, clear multicultural song. |
Welcome!
Over the next year we are expanding the functions of the network. Participation in the network was at no cost in our first 3 years. Your words of encouragement, your eager participation and your enthusiastic communication to other therapists has been of great help in getting the idea to become a reality. Next on the agenda is the gathering of information to help us streamline the referral process and get the right clients to the best therapists for them. Also, email alerts to help you protect your practice. And, practice-enhancing activities that will not only make it easier to do your job but strengthen your ability to deliver timely service to your clients. Step-by-step, time tested practices that smooth out the expectable bumps in establishing and maintaining a secure practice.
Our
success so far So many website visitors have expressed relief and appreciation for our presence and our help. At the same time, several other websites have attempted to lure providers away (the old divide and conquer approach) and/or have copied our pages to their websites. While imitation may be the highest form of flattery, we request that you help us stay strong by not participating. How does it go.....?..."dance with the one that brung ya'". In the meantime, good begets good and we are growing well. Our strength is not only in our unity but in our purpose. |
